Linford Christie launches our new service.....Healthy Minds in Healthy Bodies

Olympic Gold Medallist Launches Brent Mind’s Healthy Minds Project at Respect Festival

An exciting new Brent Mind project wasl launched by Linford Christie at the Brent Respect Festival on Sunday 6th July 2008 at Roundwood Park, Harlesden.  The Healthy Minds project will enable and support people with mental health in taking more physical exercise.  Brent Mind hopes that this new service will lead to healthier and more active people and communities.

The Healthy Minds team offers a wide variety of community based physical activities to improve mental and physical wellbeing to anyone in Brent who has experienced mental distress.  The Healthy Minds Project currently has a weekly programme available which consists of yoga, tai chi, keep fit, aquafit, swimming, badminton, football and physio and massage available for all members.

The Healthy Minds Project has been granted £355,328 over 3 years by the Well-being programme Moving People which is funded by Big Lottery as part of a partnership bid with National Mind.  Moving People is a national anti-discrimination project involving a consortium of Mind, Rethink, Mental Health Media and the Institute of Psychiatry.

May 08 - Supporting People award Brent mind standard B

Many congratulations to our Housing Team who have achieved a B in the Quality Assessment Framework (QAF) for Supporting People Supported Housing! This is a wonderful achievement!

Our Supported Housing service is the biggest of our services and the service has a widespread positive impact on people with mental ill health in Brent.  The QAF forms a key part in the Contract/Performance Management process for Supporting People. There are 6 core objectives:
  1. Needs and Risk Assessment
  2. Support Planning
  3. Security, Health and Safety
  4. Protection from Abuse
  5. Fair Access, Diversity and Inclusion
  6. Complaints

Quality Level C indicates that the service meets the required minimum standard but with scope for improvement. This is where we were. After a sustained amount of concentrated effort by our Housing colleagues we are today proud holders of a B: which denotes good practice and services striving towards a Level A. Less than 50% of Brent SP providers achieve a B. The B marks us out as high standard.
